ORTLIEB Sportartikel GmbH was founded by Hartmut Ortlieb in 1982 in Nuremberg, Germany, moving to Heilsbronn in 1997.
Initially crafted on his mother’s sewing machine, ORTLIEB’s first waterproof bike panniers and dry bags were designed out of necessity and tested on biking and climbing trips. Today, ORTLIEB employs over 300 people and offers 500+ products, all produced in Heilsbronn using high-frequency welding for durability, ensuring “Made in Germany” quality.
Known for patented waterproof closures and innovative designs, ORTLIEB sells directly to specialized retailers across various sports markets and exports to 30+ countries, backed by a 5-year warranty. The company is committed to sustainability, actively supporting environmental initiatives like the EOCA since 2008.
